March 2012: Supreme Court holds three days of oral arguments on the Affordable Care Act.

June 2012: T Supreme Court upholds the law’s core requirement that most Americans carry health insurance.  But the Supreme Court also allows states to individually opt out of the Medicaid expansion, which accounts for about half the law’s coverage expansion.

Summer 2012: Employers and consumers receive more than $1 billion in rebates from their insurers, which are required under the Affordable Care Act to spend at least 80 cents of every premium dollar on medical expenses and quality improvement, or refund the difference. (80/20 rule)

October 2012: Enrollment in CLASS long-term, assisted-living care insurance program were to begin (Update: CLASS was suspended by the White House in October 2011)

November 2012: President Obama was re-elected to 2nd term

New Preventive services for women with no cost-sharing (Anemia screening, Breast cancer mammography, cervical cancer screening, contraception, domestic violence screening, etc were all covered at no-cost by the insurance companies)
