Affordable Care Act Supreme Court Decision

When the Affordable Care Act was passed into law in March 2010, Congress expected the new health care reform would give people in the United States access to affordable care.

But on June 28, 2012, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the 2010
Affordable Care Act / Obamacare, including the individual mandate that requires individuals to maintain minimum essential health insurance coverage or pay a penalty tax for
failure to do so.  All provisions contained in the law was upheld, except for one
provision that would have forced states to expand Medicaid eligibility.

The Supreme Court decision allowed States to choose to expand Medicaid program or not.  In all, about 25 states expanded Medicaid coverage while another 25 states did not expand Medicaid coverage.
